When should I replace my tyres?
Many tyres have tread wear indicator bars molded into the tread. When the tread is worn down to where you can see a solid bar of rubber across the width of the tread, it is time to replace the tyre. Here's another simple test you can perform to measure tread depth on your tyres. Place a coin into a tread groove with the head upside down and facing you. If you can see the top of the head, it's time to visit a Penfold Service Centre for a new tyre. Click here to make a booking or request a quote.

What does it mean when the Service Engine Light/Maintenance Required Light displays on the dash?
This might indicate "Service", "Service Engine" or "Maint Reqd". It's an indicator that you're getting close to a scheduled maintenance interval. On some cars it's as simple as counting kilometres before it comes on, whilst on others it maps engine temperatures, oil temperatures, air temperatures and other indicators of probable stress to tell you when it might be time for new oil or a service.
If this light illuminates, you should contact your Service Centre as soon as possible. The technician will complete a thorough check of your vehicle and reset the light.
What does the Electrical Fault Light mean?
This warning light is different in every car but usually looks like a picture of a battery. You'll see it come on and go off when you start your engine as part of the car's self-test.
If this light comes on and stays on, it means the electrical charging system is no longer working properly. Think of it like a cellphone battery. If the cellphone is plugged into the charger, you can use it indefinitely, but when you disconnect it from the charger, there's a limited amount of time before your battery runs out.
It's exactly the same in your car, only bigger. Every car has an alternator - the charger - and a 12V battery used to supply power to the electrical system. If the alternator becomes faulty or the drive belt to it snaps, it will not be able to do its job. The longer you drive, the more your car will use up the remaining juice in the battery and eventually the engine will die. This almost always requires a new or refurbished alternator and/or battery.
If this light is illuminated, you should contact your Service Centre as soon as possible.
What does it mean when the Brake Warning Lights displays on the dash?
Most cars have a brake warning light on the dash. Its purpose is to alert you that something is wrong in the braking system. The brake warning light can indicate numerous things.
You should have your car looked at to identify the problem and have it fixed as soon as possible.
What does it mean when the ABS Light comes on?
If it comes on, you should have your car looked at as soon as possible. It usually means the ABS computer has diagnosed that something is amiss in the system. It could be something as simple as dirt in one of the sensors, or something as costly as an entire ABS unit replacement. It's important to note that this light normally comes on when you start the car and then switches off a few seconds later. If it blinks, throbs, flashes or in any other way draws your attention to itself, you should take note. Compared to a steady light, a blinking ABS light normally indicates something more serious.
What does it mean when the Coolant Warning Light comes on?
This is normally the coolant level warning light. If this comes on it means that the level of coolant in your radiator is low and needs topping up. DO NOT OPEN THE RADIATOR CAP WHEN THE ENGINE IS HOT! The coolant system is pressurised and it could easily release pressure and spray you with boiling coolant. Do it when the engine is cold. The coolant mixture behaves as an antifreeze in winter as well as a corrosion-inhibitor to stop your engine rusting from the inside out.
It is best to visit your Service Centre and have your coolant professionally topped up.
What does it mean when my Oil Warning Light comes on?
Typically this light will come on if your oil pressure is too low. Low oil pressure is serious and if you continue to drive with this light on, eventually your engine will die. Low oil pressure can be caused by a failed oil pump, a blocked oil filter or strainer in the sump, or by low oil levels - for example if your engine is burning oil.
You should have this inspected at your closest Service Centre as soon as you notice the problem.

What are the scheduled service intervals for a Mazda?
Your vehicle must be serviced to Mazda specification and standards every 10,000 kilometres or every six months whichever is sooner. Please consult your Owner’s Manual for detailed information on the serving requirements for your Mazda. These requirements must be followed to ensure your vehicle continues to operate within specification.
Vehicle servicing is an owner responsibility and failure to maintain your Mazda in accordance with these requirements may void your New Vehicle Warranty. Servicing every six months even though 10,000 kilometres has not been reached ensures that fluids and parts susceptible to deterioration are inspected or replaced to keep your Mazda running as it should. Please note some earlier model Mazdas had service intervals of every six months or 7,500 kilometres and every three months or 5,000 kilometres.
Does the dealership have a courtesy vehicle available for me at service time?
To minimise inconvenience at service time, Penfold Mazda has a limited number of courtesy cars available for customer use. We charge a nominal daily fee to cover overheads. Please enquire when you call them to book in for servicing.
Please note in the case of a warrantable concern, the terms and conditions of the New Vehicle Warranty clearly state that consequential losses are excluded from any claim. This includes costs associated with having a concern addressed.
My vehicle was damaged by the dealership, what should I do?
Penfold Mazda always acts with the utmost professionalism and care. However very rarely a mishap may occur that requires some corrective action to a customer’s car. In these circumstances our dealerships always act promptly to resolve any problem.
Please address enquiries of this sort to the Service Manager on (03) 9268 1294.
What type of fuel does Mazda recommend for it's vehicles?
Early model vehicles designed for Leaded fuel can use Regular Unleaded or Premium Unleaded fuel, but must also use a lead replacement additive to prevent valve seat wear. These additives are usually available from your fuel supplier.
Click here for more information on fuels.
Does Mazda recommend an oil for use in its vehicles?
Proper lubrication is essential to the life of your vehicle and different Mazda models have different requirements. In all cases we recommend the Genuine Mazda Engine Oil specified for your vehicle in your Owner’s Manual.
Please note the next-generation RENESIS rotary engine in the RX-8 uses mineral oil and is NOT compatible with any synthetic or semi-synthetic oils and they must not be used. We recommend Genuine Mazda Rotary Engine Oil for this high performance sports car. This oil is available in convenient 1ltr packs - handy when topping up during owner checks.
Click here for further information on the recommended Genuine Mazda Engine Oils or contact your Penfold Mazda Service Centre on (03) 9268 1222.

My Mazda and LPG
Mazda does not offer LPG as an option for its current models although in the past some specially prepared commercial vehicles were supplied with ‘factory fit’ LPG. Mazda does not recommend or endorse any aftermarket LPG conversion kits for retrofit to its vehicles.
Converting your Mazda to operate on LPG may adversely impact your New Vehicle Warranty if it is determined the use of LPG, or if the fitting and maintenance of the LPG equipment, has precipitated any concern with your vehicle. Rectification in these circumstances would be a retail matter.
